The Beach, The Food, The people – This is PV!

I’m proud to say that Puerto Vallarta is like my second home.  I have spent so much time at this destination this year that I feel as if I live there part time.  The familiarity,  my favourite spots, the local merchants,  and the layout all give a sense of home to me.

This is a friendly town.  It feels as if everyone is happy to see you.  You dont have to go very far to be greeted with a pleasant hello from locals, expats, and merchants.  Yes, a small portion are trying to sell you something, but I must emphasize, “a small portion”.

The weather here from November to April is very nice.  During my stay, I was enjoying a comfortable 25 to 28 degrees.  This my perfect temperature.  Many of the locals found it to be cold, as they were in sweaters or jackets, which would make me laugh.  Toronto was experiencing a -7 snap, and asked them if they had ever experienced such cold.

Puerto Vallarta is a tourist destination.  The streets are riddled with souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels, resorts and liquor vendors, but don’t let that deter you.  Even though with the abundance of tourist traps, its not hard to ignore or overlook this aspect of this town.  The pleasantness of Olas Altas, Basilio Badillo and the Malecon make for great daily walking.  A nice stroll along the beach offer what I consider some of the nicest sunsets I have ever seen.  The colors are breathtaking.  The Malecon also possesses some amazing sculptures, art, and restaurants.  You can have a romantic tiki torch dinner right on the beach.

All in all, Puerto Vallarta has become one of my favourite beach destinations.  The perfect weather, great food, exceptional views, and great entertainment is why I call this spot “a cruise ship on land”.
